The Hong Kong S. I. hosted last weekend's Olympic time Trial and age group events organised by the Hong Kong Amateur Swimming Association. As the meet was scheduled at the end of the qualification period for the Olympic Pool events, it drew a number of overseas swimmers from all around Asia to Hong Kong who were launching a last attempt to qualify for an olympic berth. This made the proceedings more interesting for our own 11 age group athletes that raced against swimmers from Taiwan, Thailand, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Main Land China. Two of our 11 athletes made it into the medals in individual events. Nicole Evans (15 yrs.) won a bronze in the 1500 m freestyle in 18:16.47. Temana Short competing the last time in the 13/14 yrs. category in a D1, stormed to 5 personal best times in 6 events. He won the 200 m freestyle in 1:58.31, placed second twice in 800 m freestyle and 200 m IM (8:59.11 and 2:21.69). Further he took home a bronze medal in the 100 m butterfly in 1:02.60. In the 50 m freestyle open category he ranked 4 in 24.81. Further we had two boys on the 4 x 100 m freestyle SCA relay that won a silver medal. Those were Zai Xiang Ma and Temana. The following boys and girls placed in the "Top 8" of their age group: Ralph Lam (12 yrs.), Aneekah Styles (15 yrs.) and Kylie Woo (15 yrs.). All our 5 boys and 6 girls that attended the meet did swim very well. We are now focusing our preparation towards the Hong Kong Open that will take place at Victoria Park Pool from Friday July 29. to Sunday July 31. | |
