From the 7 – 12 August, Harry Wright International hosted our annual Swim Camp at West Island. This year we ran two camp streams, a Performance Stream and Development Stream. US Olympic Coach, Todd Schmitz led our Performance Stream and Edward Borja led our Development Stream. Former Harry Wright Swimmer and Hong Kong Olympian Hannah Wilson was a guest coach on the Development Camp. All 3 coaches were very inspiring and engaging and passed on so much of their knowledge and experience both as swimmers and as coaches to all camp swimmers. Camp Swimmers were treated to Question and Answer Sessions with Todd Schmitz, and talks on swimming Development. Both Swim Camps had a strong focus on developing good stroke technique and strong fundamental skills. Lead Coaches on both the Performance and Development Camp focused on a specific stroke each day. They were taught different skills that will help in developing good habit and technique. Swimmers were also treated to awesome video clips, put together by Edward Borja. These video clips had stroke techniques and swimming skills of the best swimmers in the world. This showed camp swimmers the best ways to execute turns, starts and streamlines and key points coaches are looking for in all four strokes. Pinnacle Performance, continued their partnership with Harry Wright International and assisted us on the camp, with Strength and Conditioning Training session for both Development and Performance Camp Swimmers, Physiotherapy Assessments and mobility session for Performance Camp Swimmers. A nutritional Workshop was hosted by Pinnacle Performance. This was open to all parents and swimmers who attended the swim camp. Pinnacle Performance on the camp was to educate swimmers on different movement and techniques that will help in developing strong swimmers. One positive service we offered this year on our swim camp was Pinnacle Eat. Pinnacle Eat is the nutrition service offered by Pinnacle Performance. Head Chef Morgan Chang prepared 5 snack and 5 meals for each camp swimmer. The food and snack were designed to aid swimmers in recovery and also provide healthy nutrients that will help swimmers perform during their camp. As Swim Camp Director, I was very extremely happy with the camp. There was a great positive atmosphere on both camps. This was down to the energy both Todd and Edward brought to every workout session. I would like to thank all the HWI swim coaches for all their hard work on the camp and Pinnacle Performance for their support in strength and conditioning and Pinnacle Eat. Lastly I would like to say well done to all camp swimmers. Your Willingness to listen, learn and attitude helped in creating a very successful camp. Marvin Johnson | |
