HWI had 3 boys and 6 girls racing at last weekend’s Festival of Sport Swimming competition. This meet is an Open Competition (none age group) with heats being contested in the morning and the fastest 8 swimmers regardless of their age racing once more in the afternoon finals.

Sarah Chu (13 yrs.) qualified as 8th fastest swimmer for finals in the 50 m backstroke with a heat time of 31.84 and returned in the afternoon finishing 8th in finals with a strong 32.34. Sarah also achieved a great ranking in the 50 m freestyle touching in 9th place in 27.64 missing out on finals by less than 0.1 seconds. Sarah also featured in the 100 m freestyle and 100 m backstroke, in which she achieved high rankings, as well as the 50 m butterfly.

Olivia Du (13 yrs.) qualified for finals in her 400 m IM placing 8th in heats with a time of 5:36.71. However she was then not available to race her final and was scratched out of it. Olivia’s other two events were the 400 m freestyle and the 800 m freestyle.

Kylie Woo (17 yrs.) qualified for finals in a time of 2:29.97 in the 200 m backstroke, placing 7th in the morning heats. Unfortunately she decided to scratch her attendance in the afternoon due to academic preparation for school examinations.

The following swimmers attended the meet competing for the first time ever in an open format none age group event, gaining valuable experience racing against the best swimmers in Hong Kong:
Kimberly Hobson (14 yrs.), Summer Lam (13 yrs.), Katelyn Tang (13 yrs.), Alvin Ip (16 yrs.), Ralph Lam (14 yrs.) and Anson Tam (13 yrs.).

A big Well Done goes out to all swimmers that took on the challenge of competing in an Open event!
