Dear Parents, Please find below some information about our upcoming swimming competition. The ENTRY FORM is attached, and can be found on the HWI website – please print and hand in to your coach with the entry fee in an envelope. (CASH ONLY PLEASE) HWI Learn To Swim CHARITY GALA – DECEMBER 1ST 2018 DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES = MONDAY 26TH NOVEMBER!! This competition provides an opportunity for young children to compete in a friendly enjoyable atmosphere, and to help us raise money for the charity below. Please enter your child only if you feel he or she is ready and happy to participate, to ensure that it will be a positive experience. Please only enter your child if he/she can confidently complete their event(s) unaided. VENUE; WEST ISLAND SCHOOL, 250 Victoria Rd, Pokfulam DATE; SATURDAY DECEMBER 1ST TIME; 5.45pm – marshalling. Events start 6.00pm – 7.45pm EVENTS AVAILABLE ; Width races (10m across the pool) for 4/under and 5yr olds – these races will be run at the start of the gala and children will receive participation medals only. 25m races (1 length of the pool) available for 5/under, 6yrs, 7yrs, 8yrs, 9yrs, 10yrs, 11+12yrs. Children can enter as many events in their age group as they wish. Events will be run through the age groups in this order; 1. Width races (10m across the pool) 2. All Freestyle events 3. All Backstroke events 4. All Breaststroke events 5. All Butterfly events MEDALS; All swimmers will receive one participation medal. Each 25m event will also be awarded with Gold, Silver, Bronze for 1st/2nd/3rd places overall (not for each heat – if more than one heat of an age group, overall time will determine the places) ENTRY FEE; $250 per swimmer – the entry fees collected will be donated to the Home of Loving Faithfulness, a Hong Kong based charity caring for the severely disabled, which HWI has supported for many years. You can visit the website here; http://www.holf.org.hk/ ELIGIBILITY; The gala is open to children enrolled in Beginner 1 Advanced to Bronze Squad, providing they are able to confidently swim the events of their age – please check with your coach if you are not sure! If children are 6yrs or over they need to be able to complete a length (25m) of the pool. Please note that this gala is NOT open to those in the competitive squads from Silver Squad upwards (SILVER, GOLD AND PERFORMANCE SQUADS) Children do not have to use the dive blocks – they can dive or jump in form from the side. (for Backstroke children will be asked to enter the pool first) ENTRY FORMS The Entry form should be given back to your coach with the Entry fee as soon as possible – PLEASE PUT CASH INTO A SEALED ENVELOPE. You will receive confirmation of your entry a few days before the competition, and a full programme will be posted on the website.
